AHUMC hosts conference on helping children from hard places
Children who are fostered or adopted often need healing. April 10th and 11th Anderson Hills Methodist Church is hosting a two day conference called "Empowered to Connect." This is a live simulcast featuring Dr. Karyn Purvis, director of the Texas Christian University Institute of Child Development. The conference runs from 10 am- 6 pm each day. The conference is ideal for adoptive and foster parents, those considering adoption or foster care and those who are serving and supporting others, including social workers, agency professionals, church staff and ministry leaders, counselors, therapists and others. They can attend one or both days. The afternoon session on Saturday the 11th is extremely beneficial to any parent who wants to learn how to improve their parenting strategies by ?connecting instead of correcting?. CEU credits are free for professionals. Foster/adoptive parents, will receive a certificate. It is at the agency?s discretion whether or not to count participation toward training credits. Early bird registration $10 until 3/15. From 3/16 - 4/9 registration fee is $15. Fee is $20 the day of the event at the door. (childcare, training manual & snacks included) Anderson Hills United Methodist Church has a growing number of foster and adoptive families.
