UC Clermont College will host the First Annual Phil Sinkovich Basketball Classic on November 20-21. The Sinkovich Classic marks the first classic the men’s basketball program has hosted - being named in honor of the college’s first men’s basketball coach, Phil Sinkovich
“We wanted to recognize Phil as the first men’s basketball coach at UC Clermont by naming the classic in his honor. We will also be inviting our basketball alumni back for this tournament,” said Athletic Director Brian Sullivan.
Sinkovich started the basketball program at UC Clermont College in 1990 and was head coach for 12 years with a record of 251-121. His teams were Ohio Regional Campus Conference (ORCC) Champions in 1995, 1997 and 1998 and ORCC Runners-Up in 1994, 1996, 2000 and 2001. During those years, he also served as the college’s athletic coordinator. Sinkovich was instrumental in growing the athletic program from just tennis and men’s basketball to women’s volleyball, women's basketball, softball and golf. He is a 1969 graduate of Mount Saint Mary’s College, Md. and received his master’s degree from Washington College, Md.
Sinkovich also served as an assistant basketball coach at Adrian College, Mi., head basketball coach at Owens College, Toledo and was a teacher and head basketball coach at Anderson High School. For the past 13 years, Sinkovich worked as a district administrator in the Forest Hills School District before his retirement.
